Samus Aran

Anton Lambert
Date: November 30, 2007
Time: 10:25 am
Place: Devy Lab
Samus Aran is the fictional protagonist of the Metroid video game series. Introduced in the 1986 video game Metroid, Samus is a bounty hunter armed with a cybernetic power suit with a number of advanced technologies built into it. One of the few and earliest female video game protagonists, she hunts aliens called the "Space Pirates" and energy-draining alien parasites called "Metroids", while attempting to complete missions given by the Galactic Federation. Samus is voiced in Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Metroid Prime Hunters, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption by Jennifer Hale, but only for incidental sounds (such as cries of pain, grunts and death screams).
Her gender was unusual for a game protagonist of her time; Metroid led players to believe Samus was a male cyborg (including references to the character as male in the English instruction booklet) until the very end of the game, where it was revealed that Samus is in fact an athletic young woman. Although Samus wears the Power Suit throughout most of the Metroid series, it has become a tradition to depict her in much more revealing attire at the end of each game, often as a reward for satisfying certain conditions (such as completing the game quickly or with a high percentage of the game’s items collected). Samus is considered the first playable female character in a Nintendo game.

The gameplay consists of a mixture of action, adventure, puzzle solving, role-playing and occasional platforming, stealth and racing elements. The series centers around Link, the sole playable character and protagonist. Link is often given the task of rescuing Princess Zelda and the most common setting of the series, Hyrule, from Ganon who is the primary antagonist of the series. However other settings and antagonists have appeared throughout the games, with Vaati having recently become the series' secondary antagonist. The story commonly involves a relic known as the Triforce, a set of three golden triangles of omnipotence. The protagonist in each game is not always the same iteration of Link, although the same character sometimes appears across multiple games.
The Legend of Zelda is widely considered one of the most influential video game series in history, along with Mario, Pokémon, and Metroid. The series consists of fourteen official games across multiple platforms as well as several spin-offs. Most games in the series have been met with critical acclaim and commercial success. As of October 2007, The Legend of Zelda series has sold over 47 million copies in total worldwide. The series has expanded into merchandise including electronic and plush toys and has also been adapted into a cartoon, manga and comics series.

It prevents other from enjoying thier meal in peace.

It took Nintendo almost a decade to do it, but the publisher has finally created a new Zelda game that is so well designed and so epic that it deserves to be crowned the best in its class. Twilight Princess spent four years in development by one of the most talented teams in the world. The game, helmed by Eiji Aonuma, is every bit the culmination of the franchise and also a true spiritual sequel to the original classic released on the nintendo 64 system. This is much larger, darker and more difficult adventure than GameCube's Wind Waker, which is sure to please purists. It is also a title that is available on two Nintendo systems - GameCube and Wii. While the new generation version boasts a few extras that make it the better of the two choices, the GameCube original is still no slouch.

I can remember a time is procrastinated in high school which caused me to fail several classes in one semester. I had 3 research papers to complete. One for English, history and another for a science class. On top of this i also had to prepare for a final examination coming for two of the said classes. Instead of getting my research topics and studying for the upcoming tests I put off my work and spent my time playing video games and hanging out with friends. Before i knew it my projects were due the next day and i was no where near ready for my tests. This resulted in me having to take nightly classes for my last semester in high school and even a summer school session which delayed my graduation by 3 months. It really doesn't pay to procrastinate.

Designed by Bjarne Stroustrup of AT&T Bell Labs as a successor to C. Now one of the languages of choice, although many hackers still grumble that it is the successor to either Algol 68 or Ada (depending on generation), and a prime example of second-system effect. Almost anything that can be done in any language can be done in C++, but it requires a language lawyer to know what is and what is not legal-- the design is almost too large to hold in even hackers' heads. Much of the cruft results from C++'s attempt to be backward compatible with C. Stroustrup himself has said in his retrospective book "The Design and Evolution of C++" (p. 207), "Within C++, there is a much smaller and cleaner language struggling to get out." [Many hackers would now add "Yes, and it's called Java" --ESR]
